our story

weaving old and new traditions and ways together, re-learning and un-learning. ..blackbird hollow is many things .. .providing sanctuary to plants, humans, animals and wild things, a budding edible & medicinal perennial nursery, ever growing apothecary gardens (a medicinal library), and an off-grid homestead for our little family.

based in phinneys cove, nova scotia / kespukwik district of mi’kma’ki, the unceded land of the mi'kmaq people.

after many years of moving around from cabin to cabin and farm to farm we are grateful to finally be sinking our roots into the north mountain. . ..tending to an old clearcut property riddled with bedrock and slashpiles, with a crooked little creek and a beautiful view of the bay. the winds are fierce and the soil we have had to build up, but there is no other place we would rather call home. watching the land heal and bloom, as we watch and learn about cyclical, slow, land based living.

as global systems continue to fail and we watch the collapse of many delicate, detrimental and impractical commercial food systems, we are seeking to source and trial hard to find plants, bring back forgotten perennial food crops, and strive to grow and diversify what can thrive and survive in our bioregion. by doing so, we are seeking to strengthen our food sovereignty, as well as have low impact, simple systems in place for growing food and medicine. how can we build community, food systems, and new worlds. ..

picked with care

all our wares are hand-picked here on the land from our gardens, or nearby wild stands that we tend with the utmost of care and intention, never taking too much, and always with deep gratitude to the land. sometimes we source ingredients like organic ginger from trusted local farmers & friends, keeping things as locally based as possible, always.
