alcea rosea - a dark red/purple almost black hollyhock. a tall, stately perennial flower. hollyhocks have been favoured for their presence in the garden for a long time. the leaves, flowers & roots are edible, and have been used in herbal medicine. they can grow up to seven feet tall.
