the hican (carya ovata x c. illinoinensis) tree is a cross of hickory and pecan, typically reaching heights of 30 to 70 feet. the nuts are rich in nutrients and are said to be as tasty as hickory but with thinner, easier to crack shells.. depending on what pollinated each seedling, the nuts will resemble hickory or pecan, but either way are supposed to be good producers. the hican thrives in well-drained, fertile soils under full sun.
