orange daylily (hemerocallis sp.) is a resilient, hardy and easy to grow perennial flower with edible leaves, petals & roots. they can be grown in gardens but also seem to do fine in the woods (though they will not flower without sun), or in part-shade and even wet areas. the early leaf shoots are a great spring edible, the flowers are sometimes served stuffed with cheese, but can also be dried and used as thickener in soups. the tubers are nutty in flavor and can be eaten raw or cooked.
