red currant (rhibes rubrum 'jokeer van tet') - the leaves are lobed & serrated and springtime provides small, yellow-green flowers. similar to black currant in growth, but earlier with red berries of a milder & sweeter flavor. berries are used in preserves and juice, and highly valued for their high vitamin c content & antioxidant properties. red currants can thrive in well—drained, slightly acidic soil & prefer full sun to partial shade. they are a hardy addition to any homestead or garden.
