shellbark hickory (carya laciniosa) - a medium to large growing deciduous tree growing up to 80ft tall. nuts are oval and sweet, similar in taste to pecan but supposedly sweeter. native to parts of north eastern turtle island (northamerica). soil tolerant. slow growing and long lived.
