hazelnut (corylus avellana) - european hazelnut, a large deciduous shrub growing up to 16’ tall. shade tolerant. great for hedgerows. not picky soil wise but will grow more nuts when tender & provided richer soil. the nuts are extremely tasty & nutritious and can be eaten raw or roasted, made into nut milk, nut butter or into oil. quite hardy & easy to grow. fruits start between 6-8 years after planting. hardiness zone 4-8
