burr oak (quercus macrocarpa) - a large, dense deciduous tree reaching up to 100ft tall. native to north eastern turtle island (north america) . tolerates most soils. hardy. can tolerate wind and drought. seed is considered to be the most palatable of all the oaks. sweet seeds with little tannin. hardiness zone 3-8
