(juglans cinerea) – the hardiest member of the walnut family, also known as white walnut. native to eastern northern america. up to 60' tall with a broad, rounded crown.. living to about 75 years old. nuts are sweet and rich in oil. can be eaten fresh, roasted or salted. growing up to 60’ tall with a similar spread, butternut wants full sun and rich nutritive, acidic to neutral soil.
